Big changes for younger Dutton
16 year old Cole Dutton of Chilhowie has been busy preparing for his Sixth season of racing and is planning on making a jump up in class for the 2010 season. Cole will still be in a familiar black number 1, but this season, Cole will make the jump from the UCAR class to the Super Street class. Its the same car my brother Cody drove in a few races last year. Cody bought a Mini Stock from Duke Bare; so I decided to jump into the Super Street.
Cole got his start in racing after watching the races one night and he instantly said to himself, I can do that better than them, referring to the drivers that was on the track at the time. Cole says he continues to race because he previously had not been very good at anything in particular. Once I started racing and had success from the start, I knew I had found something I wanted to keep doing.
Coles greatest accomplishments in racing happened in 2008 when he won his first ever race and then winning the Hornet Championship that same year. What makes me so proud about that is that my brother, father, and myself did the work ourselves. It was a total team effort. Without them I would have never won a single race or the track championship. Coles most embarrassing moment happened in 2007. He turned 14 and that night went out and finished the race, and then preceded to wreck his car and totally destroyed it. Coles biggest influences in racing are his brother and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. Earnhardt Jr. is listed once again as one of Coles heroes, but also added NASCAR Hall of Fame member Dale Earnhardt Sr. as well.
Helping on the car this year for Cole will be Crew Chief Dad, Brother Cody, and his girlfriend and fellow racer Laken Widener. Each of them do so much for me to get the car ready for Saturday. I would never make it to the track each week without them. Once I start racing each night, nobody could ask for a better team to back me up and keep me focused on what I need to do! Cole is currently looking for sponsors for the 2010 season and added If anyone out there wants to get into racing at the sponsorship level, come talk to me some night and we will work out a deal for them.
Coles goal for this season is to keep his nose clean so he can gain valuable experience and hopefully earn Rookie of the Year in the Super Street Division. His long term goal is to see how far he can make it in racing. I will continue racing until it is no longer fun for me.
Cole would like to thank Mom, Dad, Cody, Bobby Helton, KeeSee Trucking, and Boo & Larry at Oval Track Performance. I would also like to thank Tim Widener for all his help
